Use your Oreo Coupons to celebrate National Oreo Day

In case you were wondering what to do with those Oreo coupons from the 2/26 Smartsource insert, we just thought we’d remind you that March 6 is National Oreo Cookie Day.  Of course, that doesn’t mean you can only celebrate this auspicious occasion on March 6.  We believe that national treasures like Oreos should be celebrated every day of the year.

Fun Facts About Oreos

  • The National Biscuit Company (today known as Nabisco) first developed and produced the “Oreo Biscuit” in 1912 at its Chelsea factory in New York City. Today, the block on which the factory was located is known as “Oreo Way”.
  • The name “Oreo” was first trademarked on March 14, 1912.
  • The first Oreo cookies in the United States sold for 25 cents a pound in clear glass topped novelty cans.
  • In 1912, the Oreo Biscuit was renamed to “Oreo Sandwich”.
  • In 1948, the Oreo Sandwich was renamed to “Oreo Creme Sandwich”.
  • William A. Turnier developed the modern-day Oreo design in 1952 to include the Nabisco logo.
  • Nabisco’s principal food scientist, Sam Procello, developed the modern Oreo cookie filling.

How to Celebrate National Oreo Day

According to the folks at National Day Calendar, the best way to celebrate National Oreo Day is to “Grab a glass of milk and a handful of Oreos to enjoy and use #NationalOreoCookieDay to post on social media.”

But we couponers are much more creative than that, right?  Why stop at dunking when you’ve got a stockpile of Oreos to play with?

I spent a mere 10 minutes on Pinterest and came up with 98 different ideas for things you could do with Oreos.  I found recipes for Oreo brownies, cookies, cakes, cheesecakes, pies, popsicles, fudge, frosting, truffles, whoopie pies, milkshakes, cocktails, ice cream, popcorn, cupcakes, S’mores, trifles… even Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies and Cookie Dough Stuffed Oreos! And OMG! Yes, please! Oreo Donuts and Waffles!

Jessica's Kroger Mega Event Haul 11/8/2014

Jessicas Kroger Haul Earlier this year all the Kroger stores in our area decided to stop doubling coupons so Jessica and I did what any other couponers would do – we started shopping somewhere else. We have Giant Eagle stores here in Columbus and they not only double coupons, they welcome couponers with open arms. Now, Giant Eagle stores are nice and the employees are all wonderfully helpful, but they’re sometimes lacking in variety. But, instead of crossing the threshold of that traitorous Kroger store we usually decided to do without. We rationalized that we were saving even more money at Giant Eagle because they still double coupons and the few items they were lacking really didn’t make that much of a difference. But then we thought to ourselves, “Most of our customers have to shop at store where they no longer double coupons. What kind of couponers are we, anyway, if we’re relying on double coupons to make a good haul?” So, with the Kroger Mega Event fast approaching, Jessica started putting together one of her famous Kroger Hauls. This Kroger Mega Event is one of the Buy 10 Save $5 Instantly events. Buy any combination of 10 participating items and you save $5. You can buy as many as you like as long as you buy in multiples of 10. And what really kicked off this major Kroger Haul was that $.35/1 Pillsbury Baking Mixes and Frostings coupon. With the Mega Event pricing and the coupon we knew we could get these for just $.14. BUT… there were a couple of glitches: Kroger only allows 5 like coupons in a single transaction. That meant that we could only get 5 cake mixes in one transaction BUT if we wanted to get the Mega Event pricing we had to buy 5 other participating items. And, if we wanted to buy 20 cake mixes (which we did) we’d have to come up with 4 separate transactions that each included 5 cake mixes and 5 of some other participating item for which we also had a coupon. Whew! But we did it. And we got $351.78 worth of groceries for only $142.89. We saved $208.89 and nary a coupon was doubled. This Kroger Mega Event runs through 11/18/2014. Check out our haul, grab your coupons and head for your nearest Kroger!

Get Ready for Deals on Pillsbury Cookie Dough

Pillsbury refrigerated cookie doughNote to self: Remember to tell everybody about the Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough coupon next year. Last year we saw deals on Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough at every store you can think of, throughout the months of December and January. Right after Christmas we also saw at least 3 stores running un-advertised specials in our area. With coupons, we picked up 30-some rolls of cookie dough for about $.25 each. You can put keep this dough in your freezer for up to 6 months or more, but you’re only going to want to do that if you buy it in bulk. And the best way to do THAT is to put this coupon in your binder NOW so you have it whenever you see the deal! This is just the first of many sales we’re going to see, but this week you’ll find Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough (reg. Price $3) on sale Buy 2 Get 1 Free at Giant Eagle, 12/18 through 12/24. With this coupon that means they’re just $1.50 each! Save $1/2 any Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough (2/28/2015)

The Happy Couponer: We're Not Your Average Coupon Blog

Yesterday we received emails from 3 people asking us why we didn’t kick off another contest and give away some more free coupons. Our first thought was to say, “Yes, we said we were going to, and we’re really sorry but we weren’t able to get it up and running. We’ll kick it off right away!” But then we had a second thought.

We’re Not Your Average Coupon Blog

The Happy Couponer is not now, never has been, and never will be another cookie-cutter coupon blog where we’re constantly running giveaways. We just don’t have the time because, unlike those other coupon blogs, we don’t just tell you to go print your coupons – we also clip and ship coupons, sometimes thousands of coupons a day.

We Go Above And Beyond Every Day

We frequently include unannounced free coupons in the daily orders we ship out. If you’ve ordered from us then you’ve probably received quite a few free coupons. We frequently run contests and award free coupons as prizes, we just don’t do it every week or every day like those other bloggers. Just last week we awarded 350 free coupons to one winner and a $25 gift card to another. We also implemented our Rockstar Rewards Points program to let you earn even more free coupons. When you order from us you’ll see your accumulated point total at the bottom of your order confirmation. You will not see this type of program on any other reputable coupon clipping service – we checked.

We’re a Coupon Clipping Service

The Happy Couponer is first and foremost a coupon clipping service, which means we have customers who rely on us to get their orders shipped on a timely basis, whether we’re including free coupons or not. When they order from us we’re pretty sure they’d rather we get their coupons out than sit down and map out another contest or set up another coupon code.  In fact, most of our regular customers have never redeemed a coupon code or Rockstar Reward Point and probably don’t even read our blog or newsletters – They. Just. Want. Their. Coupons. We frequently ship orders that come in after 3 pm on the same day. Yes, we actually drive them to the post office and flag down the truck. This is another service you won’t find anywhere else.  Most other clipping services cut off orders at 11 am, sometimes even as early as 8 am. We are also growing at a tremendous rate which means we have more and more customers relying on us every day to clip and ship their coupons in a timely manner. Combine all of that with the facts that we never charge for shipping, we have the lowest clipping fees around, and we have no minimum order requirements, and it’s pretty clear we’re going above and beyond the call of duty to develop lasting relationships with our customers. (This article we posted yesterday clearly shows the difference between us and our competitors and the benefits of using our service.) Yes, we didn’t get to kick off another contest like we planned. Are we sorry? Yes. But we’ll keep the reason we’re sorry to ourselves.

Pillsbury Cookie Dough: Twice the size plus free milk plus Catalina equals awesome deal!

Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie DoughWe’ve been talking about Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough a lot lately but we can’t help it. It’s such a great deal and what household wouldn’t be better off if everyone ate more cookies? But the deal keeps getting sweeter and sweeter. Check it out… We tested this deal on Sunday, 12/21, so we know it works!  Buy 4 of the Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough in the 30 oz. Chubs at 2/$5. (The regular size is just 16 ounces, also on sale for 2/$5, so the 30 oz. chub is almost twice the size for the same price.) Use FOUR (4) of these coupons for $1/1 Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough (exp. 3/1/2014) and pay just $1.50 per roll. At our Kroger store, when you buy 4 rolls you get a FREE Gallon of Milk. The shelf tag for the 16 oz. chubs advertises the free milk but the shelf tag for the 30 oz. chubs does not. However, we tested this ourselves yesterday and you DO get the free gallon of milk with 4 of the 30 oz. Chubs. Just take a gallon of milk through the checkout line with you when you buy the cookie dough and the cost is automatically deducted from your receipt. (Kroger milk is $2.89 a gallon this week.) In addition to the free milk, when you buy 4 30 oz. Chubs you also get a $2 Catalina coupon you can use on your next purchase – of anything, not just Pillsbury Cookie Dough. However – you will ONLY get the Catalina coupon if you buy the 30 oz. chubs – NOT the regular 16 oz. Here’s the best scenario:  Buy FOUR (4) 30-ounce rolls of Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough Use FOUR (4) of the $1/1 Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough coupons Pay just $1.50 per roll and get… ONE (1) free gallon of milk ONE (1) Catalina coupon for $2 off your next purchase Now, go get ’em, Tiger!

Jessica's Kroger Haul – November 9, 2013

howJessica saved 55% at the Kroger Mega Event this week. Total retail value? $249. Final cost? Just $113! In this video Jessica explains how she mixed and matched the Buy 10 Save $5 items and stacked manufacturer coupons for additional savings. All of the coupons she used are available at The Happy Couponer Coupon Clipping Service and here are some of the best deals for this week: Betty Crocker SuperMoist Cake Mixes: These are on sale for $1.49. They’re also included in the Mega Event pricing – Buy 10 and save $5. So, if you buy 10 cake mixes the final cost is $.99 each. Then, stack this manufacturer’s coupon for $.75 off TWO (2) and the final cost is just $.25 per cake mix. (Our Kroger store still doubles coupons up to $.99) Mott’s Apple Juice: The Mott’s Apple Juice was also in the Mega Event. On sale for $2.49, if you bought 10 you got $5 off, making them just $1.99. Stack this manufacturer’s coupon for $1/1 Mott’s Juice and these 2-quart bottles were only $.99 each. Planning is Crucial! In her video Jessica explains how we re-conned the store and researched the sales before we even started making a shopping list and clipping coupons. During one of these Buy 10 Save $5 sales, or even the Buy 5 Save $5 sales, you don’t necessarily have to buy 5 or 10 of each specific item – you can mix and match. It’s important to research the store first because there will be several items included in the Mega Event that aren’t included in the weekly ad. It’s also important to do the research first so you can match up your coupons with your quantities. For example, Jessica had one coupon for $.60/3 Green Giant Vegetable Steamers, which were included in the event, so she bought three packages and then mixed and matched other items to get the 10 items needed to qualify for the additional Mega Event pricing. Oops! We Missed One! Yeah, we’re human, too. We missed a great deal on Betty Crocker Mac & Cheese but we’re going back this weekend while it’s still on sale. Here’s the deal… Betty Crocker Mac & Cheese is included in the Buy 10 Save $5 Mega Event. The regular price is $.99, but if you buy 10 you get $5 off, which brings it down to $.49 each. Stack this manufacturer’s coupon for $.25/1 and we’ll get these for FREE! (Remember – Our Kroger store still doubles coupons.)

Jessica's Target Haul – September 29, 2013

We want to give a special Shout-Out today to Britni, one of the nicest, friendliest cashiers we’ve ever met.  Not that all Target cashiers aren’t wonderful.  We shop at Target on W. Broad St. in Columbus, Ohio, every week and always hand over a fistful of coupons and we watch the screen to make sure we get all our $5 Gift Cards.  We’re obnoxious sometimes and we know it but we’ve never once had a Target cashier pull one of those grumpy faces on us and that’s one of the main reasons we like Target – their happy, cheerful cashiers!  So thanks, Britni, (Yes, we CAN see you reading this post!) for another great shopping experience at Target! Today Jessica picked up some super deals on Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner, Charmin Toilet Paper and Advil.  And, as usual, she walked out of the store with FOUR MORE $5 Gift Cards!  Damn!  How DOES she do it?  Let’s watch and see!
